SAN DIEGO – Texas (4-7) claimed the doubles point and four of six singles contests to earn a 5-2 victory over San Diego (3-6) Wednesday afternoon at the Toreros’ Hogan Tennis Center.

The Longhorns opened the match by taking two of three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. UT’s 19th-ranked tandem of freshman Breaunna Addison and sophomore Noel Scott posted an 8-2 win at first doubles over San Diego’s Stephanie Hoffpauir and Anna Depenau. The Longhorns clinched the doubles point at the third slot, where Juliana Gajic and Lina Padegimaite defeated Cara Brown and Marta Stojanovic, 8-5.

Texas quickly assumed a 2-0 lead when USD’s Claus retired after trailing 2-1 to Ellis in their match at first singles. The Longhorns took a 3-0 lead on the strength of Addison’s 6-4, 6-2 win over Hoffpauir at second singles.

UT clinched the victory at fourth singles, where Begley dealt Stojanovic a 6-4, 6-3 defeat. Scott tacked on to the Texas lead when she knocked off USD’s Blecher at third singles, 2-6, 7-5, 1-0. San Diego closed the final margin to 5-2 behind Brown’s 7-6, 7-5 win over UT’s Gajic at sixth singles.

Texas kicks off a nine-match homestand on Friday when it hosts Oklahoma. The match is set for a 2 p.m. CT live telecast on Longhorn Network.
