Lady Bears Open Big 12 Play At Iowa State, West Virginia

WACO, Texas - Baylor's 36th-ranked women's tennis team will open its Big 12 Conference schedule against Iowa State at 3 p.m. on Friday in Ames, Iowa, before traveling to take on West Virginia at 10 a.m. on Sunday in Morgantown, W. Va.

Most recently, Baylor (5-10) earned a 4-3 victory at home against 47th-ranked Virginia. The win snapped a five-game losing streak. In doubles, BU is 13-24 during dual-match play. The Lady Bears' lineup features one ranked doubles pairing, No. 25 Ema Burgic and Victoria Kisialeva. The duo is 8-1 in the top spot for the Lady Bears. Baylor's three ranked players, 12th-ranked Burgic, 121st-ranked Kisialeva, and 124th-ranked Megan Horter are a combined 17-29.

Iowa State (5-6) looks to extend a three-match winning streak when it plays Baylor in its first Big 12 match of the season. The Cyclones are coming off a 7-0 sweep against Grandview, giving up only two games during singles action.

Baylor is 17-0 all-time against Iowa State. The last time these two teams met, the Lady Bears swept the Cyclones with a 4-0 decision on April 23, 2012.

West Virginia (4-7) enters the weekend with a 6-1 victory over Rutgers, earning wins on all courts in both singles and doubles action except for one. The match was the Mountaineers' third consecutive win. WVU, 4-2 at home this season, will first open conference play against 19th-ranked TCU on Friday before taking on the Lady Bears.

West Virginia is an even 16-16 in doubles action. The tandem of Emily Mathis and Audrey Wooland leads the team with a 7-4 record. Ikttesh Chahal and Hailey Barrett are both a team-best 6-5 overall in singles for the Mountaineers.

This is the first meeting between Baylor and West Virginia.

The Lady Bears were picked to finish second in the league, while Iowa State and West Virginia were ranked No. 9 and 10, respectively, by the league's coaches.

After this weekend's action, BU will host Miami at 1 p.m. on March 23 at the Hurd Tennis Center.
