MIAMI - The No. 20 Purdue women’s tennis team started its spring break trip with a victory over Winthrop on Thursday. The Boilermakers beat the Eagles, 6-1.

Purdue (8-1) picked up its seventh-straight win with near perfection. The Boilermakers started the morning by sweeping the doubles point. The No. 38 pair in the country of Krisztina Kapitany and Mara Schmidt picked up its while being ranked. The duo defeated Alice Garcia and Giovanna Portioli, 8-4. Imogen Golder and Gisella Pere clinched the point with a victory at No. 3. The seniors defeated Andressa Garcia and Tijana Uzelac, 8-4. Lynda Xepoleas and Daniela Vidal then completed the sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 2 over Caitlin Cridland and Ekin Gunaysu.

The Boilermakers continued to dominate in singles. Golder was nearly perfect at No. 5 as she picked up a straight-sets victory. Golder defeated Gunaysu, 6-1, 6-0. Schmidt finished soon after. She continued her hot season and improved to 7-2 in dual match play. Schmidt defeated Alice Garcia, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2.

Xepoleas picked up a straight-sets win to clinch the match for the Boilermakers. The sophomore knocked off Andressa Garcia at the top singles spot, 6-3, 6-2. Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum kept her unbeaten record intact with a victory at No. 4. The freshman topped Cridland, 6-4, 6-3.

Winthrop (5-9) finally got on the board with a win at No. 6. Uzela snapped Pere’s seven-match winning streak this season with a 6-1, 7-6 (5) win. Vidal closed out the action with a hard-fought win at No. 3. The sophomore defeated Portioli 7-6 (1), 6-2.

The Boilermakers return to action on Friday with a noon matchup against Florida International. Live scoring is not available, though a full recap and results will be posted on PurdueSports.com following completion of the match.
