BERKELEY - Ben McLachlan claimed the Cal men's tennis team's second straight Pac-12 Player of the Week award on Tuesday, after the junior upset the nation's 11th-ranked player in singles and won in doubles in the Golden Bears' match with Pepperdine last week.
Despite McLachlan's heroics, Cal lost that nonconference affair, 4-3, to the Waves on March 16 in Berkeley.
Against Pepperdine, the 57th-ranked McLachlan beat the 11th-ranked Sebastian Fanselow, 6-2, 6-3, on court one to give Cal a 2-1 lead in the overall match. Earlier, McLachlan and freshman Mads Engsted - the 45th-ranked doubles team - defeated Fanselow and Alex Sarkissian, 8-4, on court two, as the Bears went on to win the doubles point.
Last week, sophomore Gregory Bayane earned Cal's first Pac-12 Player of the Week accolade of the season.
Twenty-fourth ranked Cal next plays No. 36 TCU on Saturday, March 24, I Forth Worth, Texas.
