WACO, Texas - The 29-ranked Baylor men's tennis team claimed a 7-0 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette (10-9) at the Hurd Tennis Center on Thursday to improve to 11-4 on the season.

"We had a good match," head coach Matt Knoll said. "I was pleased. It is evidence to me that we are getting better. I saw a lot of good things out here today."

Baylor had a strong start in doubles play as Mate Zsiga and Tony Lupieri dominated on court one with an 8-1 victory. They were soon followed by Patrick Pradella and Julian Lenz, who bested Yates Johnson and Hunter Johnson on court three, 8-4, to clinch the doubles point for BU.

The Bears were able to sustain the momentum as singles competition got underway. No. 97 Marko Krickovic extended the Baylor lead to 2-0 as he claimed a 6-4, 6-3 victory over the Ragin' Cajuns' Yates Johnson in the No. 6 spot.

The 64th-ranked Pradella was next to finish with a 6-0, 6-4 win on court one over Rick de Groot. Baylor's Tony Lupieri topped Hunter Johnson 6-2, 7-5 at the No. 4 spot to clinch the match for the Bears.

From there No. 98 Mate Zsiga disposed of Jake Wynan on court 3, 6-2, 6-2, to give the Bears a 5-0 lead. The 49th-ranked Julian Lenz continued BU's dominance with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Edgar Lopez at the No. 2 position.

After overcoming a first set loss on court six, Diego Galeano fought his way back to win the final point of the match 5-7, 6-0, 6-4.

"It was important for us that Diego Galeano got that win," Knoll said. "I was proud of him for fighting and getting through it, but I thought there were a lot of good things today."

The victory improved Baylor's overall record with the Ragin' Cajuns to 10-5 and upped the Bears home mark to 8-3. BU has claimed six 7-0 shutouts in 2013.

The Bears will be back in action Friday as they host the Shockers of Wichita State at 3 p.m.

"It will be a good test," Knoll said. "They are a team that can win their league and make the NCAAs. I appreciate Wichita State for fitting us into the schedule and making the trip down here. We need another match and that's what we will have tomorrow."
