DALLAS - The No. 22 Tulsa women’s tennis squad dropped a 4-3 decision at SMU on Friday. The Golden Hurricane fell to 9-5 on the season, while the Mustangs improved to 7-4.
Tulsa took the doubles point thanks to wins on Court No. 1 and 3. At No. 1 doubles, Samantha Vickers and Isaura Enrique, ranked No. 19 in the nation, defeated Vaszilisza Bulgakova and Aleks Malyarchikova, 8-4. Renata Kuricova and Maria Sant’Anna also picked up an 8-2 triumph over Edyta Cieplucha Yana Erkeeva at No. 3 singles.
In singles play, SMU rallied to win four of the six matches to defeat TU.
Tulsa's singles wins came at No. 1 and No. 6 singles. At No. 1 singles, Vickers defeated Cieplucha, 6-0, 6-2 to improve to 11-1 on the spring season. Vickers is currently ranked No. 59 in the country.
TU’s Kuricova also defeated Erkeeva at No. 6 singles 6-1, 1-0 (default).
Tulsa will wrap up the weekend against North Texas in a 2 p.m. match slated for tomorrow in Denton, Texas.
