Georgia Holds at No. 5 in Latest Rankings

ATHENS, Ga.—The Georgia women’s tennis team remained at No. 5 in the latest rankings released Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Last weekend, Georgia beat No. 16 Vanderbilt and No. 46 Kentucky.

Georgia has three singles players and four doubles players ranked in the latest rankings.

In singles, sophomore Lauren Herring headlines the Georgia contingent at No. 8. On Sunday against Kentucky, she handed No. 38 Nadia Ravita her second loss of the season. Herring is 29-5 this season with 16 wins against ranked opponents. Junior Maho Kowase, who is 29-7 this year, is ranked No. 18. She is the winner of a team-high seven matches in a row. Freshman Silvia Garcia is No. 86 in the latest rankings. The Madrid, Spain-native is 16-2 so far during her freshman campaign.

In doubles, the duo of Garcia and junior Kate Fuller are tabbed No. 4. They are nearly flawless this spring, holding a 15-1 record. Fuller is also ranked No. 35 with Herring, but they’ve yet to team up this spring. The tandem of Kowase and junior Lilly Kimbell are ranked No. 55, while Herring and Kowase, who have won five straight, are ranked No. 59.

Georgia returns to action this weekend, making its inaugural trip to Columbia, Mo. to take on No. 58 Missouri before traveling to College Station, Texas to square off with No. 3 Texas A&M.
