NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 11 University of Oklahoma men’s tennis team faces No. 69 Rice in an Easter Sunday match, March 31, at 1 p.m., in Norman, Okla.
 
“We are looking forward to another good opportunity against a talented Rice team on Sunday,” OU head coach John Roddick said.
 
The Sooners (12-5) enter the match after sweeping San Diego, 7-0, Thursday, March 28. OU won doubles matches at Courts 2 and 3, snatching the first team point. After that, the Sooners carried their momentum into singles. Axel Alvarez Llamas clinching the match at the on Court 4. Three matches later, Peerakit Siributwong completed the Sooners’ sweep at the No. 5 position.
 
The Owls come into the match after losing to No. 24 Tulsa Friday, March 29. Tulsa won two of the three doubles matches, leaving the match at the No. 2 position tied at 5-5.
 
The Golden Hurricane extended their lead with a win on Court 5 in singles. Rice attempted a comeback with a win on Court 2 and matches taken to the third set on Courts 4 and 6. However, the Owls could not hold Tulsa and ultimately one just one more match, losing to the Golden Hurricane, 5-2, and falling to 8-10 on the season.
 
OU enters the match with three ranked singles players, No. 30 Costin Paval, No. 51 Guillermo Alcorta and No. 61 Dane Webb. Paval and Webb partner as the No. 29 tandem, and Alcorta teams with Alvarez Llamas as the No. 70 team.
 
Rice has no players in the ITA rankings.
 
The Sooners stay at home next week for Red River Rivalry match-up against the No. 17 Texas Longhorns Friday, April 5, at 5:30 p.m.
