OXFORD, Miss. – Coming off a big win at arch-rival Mississippi State, the No. 7 ranked Ole Miss men’s tennis team looks to maintain sole possession of first place in the SEC West with a pair of matches this weekend against No. 17 Florida and No. 20 South Carolina.

The Rebels and Gators will square off Friday at 4 p.m. at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.  The first 200 fans will receive free Ole Miss sunglasses.    Fans will also get a collector poster of sophomore William Kallberg.

“This is an important series for the SEC standings and the national rankings,” head coach Billy Chadwick said.  “Both Florida and South Carolina are ranked in the top 20 in the nation and are playing some of their best tennis of the year.   It should be great weather Friday.  With our match starting at 4, it will give our fans a chance to check out the tennis prior to the 6:30 p.m. baseball start.”

In their last action, the Rebels (13-5, 6-3) defeated No. 13 ranked Mississippi State 4-2.  After winning the doubles point, the Rebels lost five first sets in singles, prior to a rain delay, which the team used to regroup.  Senior Jonas Lutjen rallied to win a three-setter at No. 2 to clinch the victory.

Florida comes into the weekend at 10-8 overall, 4-4 in the SEC. They split a pair of matches last weekend, losing to LSU 4-2 and then defeating Arkansas 4-0.  The Gators are led by Florent Diep at No. 1 singles.

On Sunday, Ole Miss will celebrate Senior Day, honoring seniors Lutjen and Adrian Forberg Skogeng before taking on the Gamecocks.  Fans will enjoy free chicken between doubles and singles.

The Gamecocks enter the weekend at 15-7 overall, 5-3 in the SEC. They have won four in a row in the SEC.

Admission to all home matches is free.
