College Tennis News - Seventh-Ranked Tide Gears up for Final Road Matches of the Season

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The seventh-ranked Alabama women’s tennis team (16-2, 8-1 SEC) will take on Southeastern Conference newcomers Missouri (9-8, 2-7 SEC) and No. 4 Texas A&M (16-2, 8-1 SEC) this weekend in the Crimson Tide’s final road matches of the regular season. Friday’s match against the Tigers will take place in St. Louis at either Noon CT, if outdoors, or 2 p.m. CT, if indoors, while Sunday’s contest versus the Aggies is set for Noon CT in College Station.

Alabama has won its last three matches, most recently a 4-3 nail-biter against Vanderbilt. After starting the SEC season 0-3, Alexa Guarachi has won five consecutive matches, all in straight sets. Natalia Maynetto continued her dominance at the No. 6 singles position, upping her winning streak to seven after clinching the victory over the Commodores. For her efforts, she was named SEC Freshman of the Week.

Missouri is coming off an upset win after defeating then-No. 23 Tennessee on Sunday, 4-3. The Tigers are led by Cierra Gaytan-Leach, who has posted a 10-6 record at No. 1 singles and a 9-6 mark at No. 1 doubles.

Texas A&M dropped its first SEC match of the season last Sunday as then-No. 5 Georgia topped the Aggies, 4-2, but rebounded on Wednesday in a non-conference match versus Baylor, 4-2. Texas A&M has lost only six doubles points all season and five doubles matches total. The Aggies top two singles players in Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar and Cristina Stancu have combined for a 22-8 record in dual matches.
