North Carolina & Virginia Are #1 for Eight Straight Weeks

SKILLMAN, NJ - Courtesy of the ITA: (April 9) -- For the eighth straight week, both the men of Virginia and the women of North Carolina own the top spot in the ITA College Tennis Rankings.  Both teams picked up a pair of ACC wins last week to remain at No. 1.  However, on the women’s side, Florida has steadily closed the gap as less than four-tenths of a point separate the top two teams in the nation.

The men’s and women’s singles and doubles rankings have also been released with the top portion of the rankings remaining mostly the same.  Virginia’s Alex Domijan and Florida’s Lauren Embree claimed the No. 1 spot in the singles rankings for another week.  Duke’s Henrique Cunha and Raphael Hemmeler and USC’s Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria own the No. 1 doubles ranking.

Follow the Leader:  For the men, following Virginia is (in order):UCLA, Georgia, USC, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Pepperdine, Kentucky, Duke, and Tennessee. On the women’s side, North Carolina is followed by Florida, Texas A&M, Georgia, USC, UCLA, Michigan, Alabama, Duke, and Miami (Florida).


Conference Count: Men’s Top 25: SEC – 11; ACC, Big 12 & Pac-12 – 3; Big Ten – 2; Conference USA, Ivy League & WCC – 1.  The SEC has four men’s teams inside the Top 10, while the ACC and the Pac-12 have two each.  Women’s Top 25: SEC – 7; ACC – 6; Pac-12 – 5; Big Ten – 4; Big 12, Big East & Conference USA – 1.  The SEC landed four women’s teams in the Top 10, to go along with three from the ACC and two from the Pac-12.

Double-Dip: A total of 13 schools have both their men’s and women’s programs ranked inside the Top 25. Duke, Georgia, UCLA, and USC find both their men’s and women’s teams inside the Top 10 this week.
