COLARADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State junior Andy Bettles was named the Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced, Wednesday.
Hailing from Somerset, England, Bettles went a combined 4-0 in No. 1 singles and doubles as Boise State secured a second-place finish in the Mountain West with Conference wins over UNLV (5-2) and Fresno State (6-1) last week. In the match with UNLV, Bettles defeated No. 113 Ace Matias in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, to clinch the match for the Broncos. In doubles, Bettles and Nathan Sereke teamed up to take down Matias and Bernard Schoeman, 8-4. Against the Bulldogs, Bettles rolled past Felipe Fritz, 6-1, 6-2, while he and Sereke rallied past Reid deLaubenfels and Sam McNeil, erasing a 7-3 deficit to win, 9-7.
Bettles has earned the award three times this season, tied with UNLV's Ace Matias for the most of any player while the Broncos have claimed the honor five times this season, the most of any team in the conference.
Boise State will play its final regular-season match at home, Friday at 1 p.m. at the Appleton Tennis Center.
