USC's powerful men's and women's tennis programs will take a world stage this summer, going global as the United States' tennis team representatives at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia. As the nation's No. 4 and No. 5 ranked teams, respectively, the USC men and women have been selected to compete in this year's international event, which runs July 5-17, with Trojan coaches also at the helm of the squad.

USC men's head coach Peter Smith, men's assistant coach Krzysztof Kwinta and women's associate head coach West Nott will lead the U.S. tennis team, comprised of four men and four women. Competing on the men's side will be Trojan juniors Ray Sarmiento and Michael Grant, and sophomores Eric Johnson and Jonny Wang. On the women's side, USC will send junior Kaitlyn Christian, sophomores Sabrina Santamaria and Gabriella DeSimone, and freshman Ellie Yates. At the Games, teams will compete in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.

The USC men's and women's teams are two of the most successful in the country. The men have won the past four national championships and finalize their hunt for a Pac-12 title this week. The Women of Troy, who were 2012 NCAA semifinalists, just won their second straight Pac-12 championship and solidified their third 20-win season in the past five years.

The World University Games are an international athletics and cultural festival which is held every two years in a different city in a very similar format to the Olympic Games. The Games consist of 12 sports: basketball, fencing, football (soccer), gymnastics, judo, swimming, diving, water polo, table tennis, tennis, and volleyball.
