FORT WORTH – The TCU women’s tennis team closes its regular season schedule this weekend with crucial Big 12 matches against Texas Tech and Texas at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
 
The No. 25 Horned Frogs are 17-3 overall and 6-1 in the Big 12. Friday’s opponent, No. 15-ranked Texas Tech is 17-4 and 7-0 in the league. The No. 26 Longhorns are 13-9 overall and tied with TCU in the Big 12 standings are 6-1.
 
First serve for Friday’s match is set for 2 p.m. and will be in advance of the TCU men taking on Texas Tech. Sunday’s match is a 12 p.m. first serve. Following Friday’s match, TCU will honor its four seniors – Federica Denti, Olivia Smith, Kelsey Sundaram and Molly Welsh.
 
On the line this weekend is the regular season Big 12 championship and top seed in next week’s Big 12 Tennis Championships. With two wins, TCU will earn at least a share of the regular season title and the No. 1 seed.
 
TCU holds a 25-2 advantage in the all-time series against the Red Raiders, though Tech claimed the last meeting in 2009, 4-3. The Frogs have never lost to TTU in Fort Worth. TCU has won just five of the 26 meetings all-time with Texas, but has claimed two of the last three in the series.
 
Stefanie Tan leads the Frogs in singles with a 14-5 record this spring and 5-2 mark against Big 12 foes. She is currently ranked No. 45 in the ITA singles rankings. Smith is the nation’s No. 100 singles player and is 12-5. Monika Sirilova has a 7-0 record in conference play and has won her last 11 singles matches.
 
In doubles, Millie Nichols and Smith are ranked 54th with an 8-6 record. Denti and Sundaram are also 8-6 this spring, while Sirilova and Gabi Barbosa have amassed a 4-2 mark, including a 4-1 ledger against conference foes.
 
Texas Tech boasts the nation’s No. 93 singles player in Samantha Adams, while Adams and Kenna Kilgo are ranked 15th in doubles. For UT, Breaunna Addison is ranked 36th and Aeriel Ellis is 38th. Addison and Noel Scott make up the nation’s No. 13 duo, while Ellie and Scott are ranked 79th.
