IRVING, Texas - A pair of Baylor men's tennis student athletes, Marko Krickovic and Diego Galeano, earned recognition on the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 team, conference officials unveiled on Tuesday.
Sophomore Marko Krickovic was honored as a first-team selection, while fellow sophomore Diego Galeano was a second-team honoree. This is the first selection for both players.
Krickovic is a pre-business major from Ismaning, Germany. This season, he has an 11-6 dual-match record and a 2-0 mark in Big 12 contests.
Galeano is an entrepreneurship major from Asuncion, Paraguay. He has a 15-3 record in dual-match action and went 4-1 in conference play.
Overall, a total of 44 student-athletes earned first-team recognition (19 men, 25 women), while nine student-athletes comprise the second team (six men, three women).
Each honoree was nominated by his institution's director of student-athlete support services. To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or for the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team's scheduled contests.
Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student athletes, who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation, are also eligible.
First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
The 13th-ranked Bears will return to action on Saturday at noon at the in the semifinal round of the 2013 Big 12 Tennis Championships in Norman, Okla. BU is the top-seeded team for the event and will play the winner of a match between TCU and Oklahoma State.
