EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern senior Linda Abu Mushrefova (Bradenton, Fla./Pendleton) has been recognized as the Big Ten Player of the Week the conference office announced Wednesday.

It is the second such award of her career. She also earned the honor on Oct. 6, 2011. Mushrefova joins Veronica Corning (March 27) as NU players to pick up the distinction this season.

She helped Northwestern to a 6-1 victory at No. 27 Purdue last Friday before the 'Cats took down No. 34 Indiana by the same score in Evanston on Sunday. Mushrefova went a perfect 4-0 on the weekend, winning twice at both No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles.

Against the Boilermakers, she bested Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum (6-1, 6-0) who had entered the match with only one dual loss all season. Mushrefova also teamed with Nida Hamilton -- with whom she is ranked No. 18 in the nation -- to defeat the 27th-ranked duo of Krisztina Kapitany and Mara Schmidt 8-1.

In Sunday's regular-season finale against Indiana, Mushrefova handed Sophie Garre a 6-3, 6-3 defeat and paired with Hamilton for an 8-5 victory over Alecia Kauss and Shannon Murdy.

The two singles wins allowed her to be the only Big Ten women's player this season to finish with a perfect 11-0 record in conference singles play.

Northwestern (15-8, 9-2 Big Ten) is ranked No. 15 by the ITA this week and opens play at the 2013 Big Ten Women's Tennis Tournament on Friday. The Wildcats are seeded third and will take on the winner of Thursday's match between sixth-seeded Indiana and 11th-seeded Wisconsin. Friday's contest is slated for 1 p.m. Central time in Bloomington, Ind.
