KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Boise State head coach Greg Patton leads his 14th team to the NCAA Tournament as the Bronco men’s tennis team (20-9) will take on No. 23 Clemson in Knoxville, Tenn., Friday at 9 a.m. MT. The match will be the first of three in the four-team pod, with the winner facing either No. 7 Tennessee of South Carolina State in the second round.

In the Rankings - The Broncos moved up four spots to No. 42 in the latest ITA rankings after winning three matches at the Mountain West Tournament and claiming their second-consecutive title in the conference.
Junior Andy Bettles is currently ranked the 40th-best singles player in the nation after a 7-3 fall season and a 22-6 record this spring. Bettles has played all 28 matches this spring at the No. 1 spot, 14 of which have been against ranked opponents.
Scouting No. 23 Clemson – The Tigers are 18-7 this season after falling to Virginia in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament. The team is led by Yannick Maden who plays at the No. 1 spot and is 26th in the ITA singles rankings. Yannick and his brother, Dominique, form the 11th ranked doubles team in the country. Hunter Harrington is also in the singles rankings, coming in at No. 105 with a 16-5 dual record primarily at the second spot for the Tigers.
NCAA History – This will mark the 16th trip to the NCAA Tournament for the Broncos where the team is 9-15 overall. Boise State has advanced past the first round six times, to the round of 16 twice (2009, 1997) and the quarterfinals once (1997). The 4-3 victory against Alabama in the second round of the 2009 tournament is the most recent win for the Broncos.
Against Ranked Opponents – Boise State is 9-9 this season against opponents ranked in the ITA top 75. The team’s signature win came in a 4-3 nail-biter against No. 22 Notre Dame at the Blue Gray Intercollegiate.
All-Conference Honors - Boise State junior Andy Bettles was named the 2013 Mountain West Men's Tennis Player of the Year, marking the sixth player in Bronco history to earn Player of the Year honors.
Nathan Sereke joined Bettles as a member of the All-Mountain West Singles Team while the pair was also named to the All-Mountain West Doubles Team. It was the second singles honor and the first doubles honor for Bettles, while Sereke was tabbed for the first time in singles and the third time in doubles.
Coming in Hot –Boise State enters the match winning 14 of its last 15 matches, with the only loss coming 4-3 to BYU.
Thomas Tenreiro (23-3) has been blowing by the competition over the past month. Tenreiro’s win streak is up to 18 matches, taking 17 of those in straight sets. The streak is the longest of any Boise State student-athlete this season.
Fantastic Freshman – Thomas Tenreiro picked up his 20th dual victory against Nevada, April 20, making him one of three Bronco freshman to reach the mark in the past five seasons. The previous two freshmen were Andy Bettles and James Meredith.
On Top of the Mountain – Boise State has taken the Mountain West by storm since entering for the 2012 season. The Broncos are 15-1 in conference matches and have now won Mountain West Tournament titles in each of their two seasons in the conference. The 2012 team also won the regular season title after going undefeated in conference play.
Player of the Week – A Boise State student-athlete has been named Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week five times this season, the most of any team in the conference
Junior Andy Bettles has been named Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week three times this season, first on Feb. 13, again March 13, and most recently April 17. He is tied with Ace Matias of UNLV for the most player of the week honors this season. Bettles has now received the award four times in his career.
Junior Nathan Sereke was named Mountain West Player of the Week, March 27 after going 5-1 and earning three singles wins. Sereke marks the third consecutive Bronco to be named Player of the Week, marking the fourth honor for Boise State this season which is tied for first with San Diego State among conference schools.
Sophomore Garrett Patton was named Mountain West Player of the Week, March 20, after going 4-0 at the Blue Gray Tennis Classic. Patton won two singles matches and two doubles matches with partner Scott Sears.
