ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan women's tennis team breezed past IPFW, 4-0, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday afternoon (May 10) at the Varsity Tennis Center.

Michigan coasted to the doubles point, winning at No. 3 and No. 1 while holding match point on court No. 2 when the match was abandoned. U-M's No. 3 pair of sophomore Kristen Dodge (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and freshman Ronit Yurovsky (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) raced to an 8-1 win at the No. 3 slot to position Michigan for the doubles point.
 
Needing just one match to wrap up the point, U-M held match points concurrently at No. 1 and No. 2. It was the No. 1 duo of sophomore Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) and junior Brooke Bolender (Delray Beach, Fla./Kaplan) that came through first, winning 8-4 at the top spot. The Wolverine pair went up a break at 5-3, allowing the Mastodons just one more game in the 8-4 victory.
 
The Wolverines were equally impressive in singles, winning all six first sets and allowing IPFW to win more than one game in just one first set.
 
Senior Mimi Nguyen (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan) provided U-M's second point of the afternoon, winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
 
U-M's third point came courtesy of sophomore Sarah Lee (Los Angeles, Calif./Campbell Hall), who did not surrender a game until the 12th game of the match in a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 3.
 
It was a race to finish as three Wolverines were on the brink at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5. Bektas delivered a 6-1, 6-1 win at the top spot to seal Michigan's shutout win. Dodge and freshman Amy Zhu (Newark, Del./Laurel Springs) were up 5-0 and 5-1, respectively, when the match was ended.
 
Michigan will face off against Notre Dame tomorrow (Saturday, May 11) with a berth to the Sweet 16 on the line. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
