WACO, Texas - Baylor freshman men's tennis player Julian Lenz was named the 2013 Texas Region Rookie of the Year, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Tuesday.

The Giessen, Germany, native, is ranked No. 55 nationally and owns the team's top record at 27-9 on the season. He is 16-5 in dual-match play. Lenz also received Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors as well as All-Big 12 singles recognition and is one of 64 players selected to play in the NCAA Singles Championships.

A Baylor player has now claimed the ITA regional award in three straight seasons as Mate Zsiga won it last year and Dennis Lengsfeld was recognized two seasons ago.

Overall, Lenz is the seventh Baylor player to earn regional Rookie of the Year honors. He joins Zoltan Papp (2000), Benjamin Becker (2002), Matija Zgaga (2004), Lars Poerschke (2005), Lengsfeld (2011) and Zsiga (2012) as award recipients.

Lenz and the Baylor men's team will be back in action on Thursday in the third round of the NCAA Championships. The 13th-ranked Bears take on fourth-ranked USC at 4 p.m. on Thursday in Urbana, Ill.
