URBANA, Ill. --- Georgia's Ben Wagland and Nathan Pasha each suffered losses in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Singles Championships Wednesday at the University of Illinois' Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex.
Pasha fell this morning by a 6-2, 6-2 score to No. 9-16 seed Evan King of Michigan before Wagland eventually lost 6-2, 6-4 to Virginia's third-seeded Jarmere Jenkins this evening in a match that finished indoors due to bad weather. It was a rematch of Monday's NCAA semifinal meeting, which Wagland won in straight sets. Pasha rounds out his sophomore singles campaign at 32-15 - leading the team in wins - while Wagland finishes 26-8.
Both players are still in action in the 32-team doubles tournament, set to begin tomorrow in Illinois. Wagland will team up with Hernus Pieters as the duo enters as a No. 5-8 seed, securing them All-America honors. They will meet UNC Wilmington's team of Kosta Blank and Chris Cooprider in the first round. Georgia's other team of Pasha and Garrett Brasseaux will take on Florida State's Blake Davis and Dominic Cotrone. The Bulldogs have won three NCAA doubles titles all-time, including Ola Malmqvist and Allen Miller in 1983, Matias Boeker and Travis Parrott in 2001, and most recently John Isner and Antonio Ruiz in 2005.
Times for the doubles matches will be announced Thursday morning. Play is not expected to begin before 1:30 p.m. ET.
