URBANA, Ill. - Virginia senior Jarmere Jenkins advanced to the round of 16 of both singles and doubles during day two of the NCAA Individual Championships at the Atkins Tennis Center. He won his second round singles match in the afternoon before pairing with Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) to win their doubles opener in the evening.

Jenkins, the tournament's No. 3 seed, reached the round of 16 of the NCAA Singles Championship for the first time in his career with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Yannick Maden of Clemson. He will look to reach the quarterfinals as he meets No. 9-16 seed Ray Sarmiento of USC on Friday. The Cavaliers have had a NCAA Singles quarterfinalist for seven consecutive years, the longest active streak in the nation.

Mitchell Frank (Annandale, Va.), who upset top-seeded Mikelis Libietis of Tennessee in the first round, fell in the second round of singles to Andreas Mies of Auburn, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2. It was just the second loss of the season for Frank and the fourth loss of his career, as he is 61-4 in singles during his first two seasons at Virginia.

The NCAA Doubles Championship began on Thursday and fourth-seeded Jenkins and Styslinger downed hometown favorites Tim Kopinski and Ross Guignon of Illinois, 6-3, 6-7(10), 6-3. The Cavalier pair were never broken in the match as they avenged an 8-4 loss to Kopinski and Guignon in March during the dual match season. Jenkins and Styslinger will play Jordan Angus and Malte Stropp of Mississippi State in the round of 16 Friday.

The team of Frank and Alex Domijan (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) ended their season with a 6-2, 6-2 first round loss to Manfred Jeske and Mike Nott of Arkansas.

Jenkins joins Mies and Henrique Cunha of Duke as the only players in the round of 16 of both singles and doubles this year of the men's individual championships.
