Junior Japie De Klerk dispatched Pepperdine's Alex Sarkissian in a three-set thriller to advance to the NCAA Division I Tennis Singles Championship quarterfinals on Friday at the Atkins Tennis Center.

The No. 41-ranked De Klerk becomes only the second player in school history to advance this far in the singles tournament, as Arnau Brugues made the NCAA quarterfinals in 2007 and 2009.

De Klerk earned a hard-fought 7-6 (7-0), 6-7 (3-7), 6-2, win over No. 62-ranked Alex Sarkissian. De Klerk will face No. 13 Evan King of Michigan tomorrow at noon.

"Today was one of the toughest matches that I have played," De Klerk commented. "I'm happy that I got the win today, as I felt like I played well down the stretch. Tomorrow is going to be a tough one against Evan King, as he has been playing amazing tennis as of late."
