EUGENE, Ore.—The University of Oregon men’s tennis program is proud to announce the signing of two new Ducks for next season, head coach Nils Schyllander announced Friday.

 

Kevin Farin joins the Ducks as a transfer from the University of Brussels in Brussels, Belgium. Farin has been ranked as high as number one amongst all junior players in Belgium. He was a participant in the doubles finals of the Belgium F9 Futures in Huy, Belgium in 2012. His ATP doubles ranking is 1283, while his ATP singles ranking has been as high as 1618. Most recently, Farin has recorded several wins over players ranked inside Belgium’s top 30 men’s players.

 

“Kevin has a huge serve and a world class forehand,” said Schyllander. “ He is so physically strong and can really cover the whole court. He comes from a tennis family and has been well coaches throughout his career. Kevin will have an immediate impact on the Ducks and college tennis.”

 

Joey Swaysland also comes to Oregon as a transfer after playing at the University of Texas. Swaysland’s career high junior world ranking is number 91, while his ATP singles ranking has been as high as 1423, and his highest ATP doubles ranking reached 1291. Born in Wagga Wagga, Australia, Swaysland was a member of Australia’s victorious Junior Davis Cup team in 2009. In 2010, he earned an ATP point after defeating countryman Nima Roshon, who was ranked number 557 in the world at the time. He also competed at the Australian Open Junior Championships and reached the round of 32 in 2010 and 2011. His extensive resume also includes a victory at the under-14 World Cup competition as well as a doubles championship at the 17th Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup in Malaysia.

 

“Joey is very experienced and he has played tennis all over the world. He brings an aggressive style of tennis that will excite the fans at the UO Student Tennis Center. He is also a very accomplished doubles player and will help us keep our success in doubles going and hopefully reach new heights,” said Schyllander.

 

Farin will have three years of eligibility as a Duck, while Swaysland will have two years to play in Oregon.

 

“To be able to bring in two athletes with the character and skill that Joey and Kevin possess this late in the game is really exciting. They both have lofty goals and will have an immediate impact on the future of Oregon tennis.”
