COLUMBUS, Ohio– Peter Kobelt and Blaz Rola, who completed their junior seasons on the Ohio State men’s tennis team in 2013, were named Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Americans, the ITA announced Thursday. Kobelt became a two-time All-American in 2013 with singles and doubles recognition, while Rola, the 2013 NCAA Singles Champion, collected his fourth-career laurel.

Kobelt, a native of New Albany, Ohio, finished the 2012-13 season with a 36-9 overall record. His 36 victories this season were a tie for the team best with senior Connor Smith, who wrapped up the campaign with a 36-7 mark. With a 190 combined singles (92) and doubles victories (98), Kobelt sits in 11th place on the all-time Ohio State list. At the 2013 NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship in Urbana, Ill., Kobelt advanced to the Round of 16 in the singles bracket as the No. 8 seed.

Rola won his second-consecutive national title in 2013 after capturing the doubles title in 2012 with former Buckeye Chase Buchanan. Rola, a native of Slovenia, defeated Virginia’s Jarmere Jenkins in the final, 7-6(8), 6-4 to become Ohio State’s first NCAA singles champion. Ranked 12th in the ITA polls, Rola was the Big Ten’s at-large singles selection and appeared in the national final for the first time in his Buckeye career. All-time Rola is 13-2 in the NCAA Singles Championship and finished the 2013 season 32-1 overall. In his three seasons at Ohio State, Rola has won at least 30 singles matches. Rola’s career singles (100) and doubles (105) wins combined is good for eighth place at Ohio State, while his 105 career doubles victories places him eighth all-time.

In all, Ohio State boasts 14 All-Americans, including current head coach Ty Tucker (1990 and 1991) and assistant coach Justin Kronauge (2008).

Student-athletes have to meet one of three criteria in order to earn ITA All-America honors - Top 16 or Top 8 seed in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, respectively; in singles, advance to NCAA Round of 16 or in doubles reach the NCAA quarterfinals; or finish in the Top 20 of the ITA National rankings for singles or place in the Top 10 of the ITA doubles poll.
