CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson men’s tennis doubles team of Yannick and Dominique Maden finished eighth in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll as released by the organization Wednesday.
Since the Maden brothers finished in the top ten of the final doubles poll, the duo are All-Americans. This is the highest that a Clemson doubles team has been ranked in the final poll since 1987 when former Tigers greats Kent Kinnear and Vince Van Gelderen finished seventh in the final listing. The Madens are the first Clemson doubles team All-Americans since Nathan Thompson and Jarmaine Jenkins earned this honor in 2004.
The Maden brothers finished the season with a 23-7 record overall, and a 13-3 mark in dual matches. The pair played number-one doubles for the Tigers this season.
The Maden brothers are the first doubles team consisting of brothers to start for the Tigers since the 1913 season (100 years ago) when brothers John and James Erwin of Spartanburg, SC teamed together for two years. In 1913, John and James Erwin won the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA) Doubles Championship after James won the SIAA Singles Title. The SIAA composed of many of today’s Southeastern Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference teams.
The Maden brothers are from Stuttgart, Germany. Yannick is a senior and Dominique is a junior.
In singles rankings, Yannick Maden finished 31st in the final ITA poll. He had a 26-10 record in singles this season, 19-6 in dual matches.
Last week, Clemson finished 21st in the final ITA team poll.
