CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- The University of Michigan women's tennis team's season came to a close with freshman Ronit Yurovsky (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) and the doubles team of junior Brooke Bolender (Delray Beach, Fla./Kaplan) and sophomore Emina Bektas (Indianapolis, Ind./New Braunfels) falling in NCAA individual action on Thursday (May 23) at the Atkins Tennis Center.

Yurovsky saw her singles run come to the end in the second round as she fell to No. 9-16 seed Nicole Gibbs of Stanford in straight sets (6-4, 6-4). Gibbs, last year's singles champion, broke Yurovsky for a 2-1 lead in the first set when she hit a drop shot that Yurovsky returned wide. In the ensuing game, Yurovksy held two break points but Gibbs scored four straight points for the 3-1 lead. Both players stayed on serve the rest of the set in a 6-4 win for Gibbs.

Heading to the second, the players exchanged breaks in the fifth and sixth games of the set for a 3-3 tie. The two stayed on serve for the next two games until Gibbs broke Yurovsky in a long deuce game for a 5-4 lead. The Cardinal then served out the match in the next game for another 6-4 win.

In doubles, Bektas and Bolender fell to Skylar Morton and Robin Anderson of UCLA in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. With the match on serve and the Wolverine pair holding a 5-4 lead, UCLA answered by winning three straight games to take the first, 7-5.

Anderson and Morton jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second set, allowing U-M just one more game. These two teams played each other last week in the team round of 16, with Bolender and Bektas coming away with an 8-6 win in the dual match.

Bektas and Bolender will receive All-America honors for earning a seed during the doubles tournament.
