FLUSHING, N.Y.-----University of Georgia junior Nathan Pasha was outlasted by Oklahoma's second seeded Guillermo Alcorta, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 in the round of 16 of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships held at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center on Friday.

Pasha ends the fall season with a 14-4 record. He won a pair of tournaments, including the Southern Intercollegiate Championships and the ITA Southeast Regional Championships.

In the consolation draw, Austin Smith fell to Baylor's Diego Galeano, 7-5, 6-4 to conclude his fall slate. Seven of Smith's 15 wins this fall came against ranked opponents.

"We struggled a little bit today," said head coach Manuel Diaz. "It was not the best of days, but both guys fought very hard. Nathan and Austin won a lot of matches over the last couple of months. I'm really looking forward to working not only with them, but the rest of our guys. The spring cannot get here fast enough.

"We need to finish this semester strong academically and keep working to improve over the next few weeks. We have a tough schedule in the spring with early matches against USC and UCLA, and we are going to grow as a team. I am looking forward to it."

Meanwhile at the Bulldog Scramble in Athens, Georgia players went a combined 7-2 on the first day of the three-day round robin event at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Hernus Pieters and Garrett Brasseaux won two singles matches apiece, while Ben Wagland and Eric Diaz each won one. All six of the Bulldogs' wins in singles were in straight sets.

In doubles, Brasseaux and Diaz claimed a 6-3 win over Vanderbilt's Kris Yee and Suresh Eswaran.

"Overall it was a good day," said associate head coach Will Glenn. "Garrett and Eric got off to a good start in doubles and they showed great progress, as I think everyone has this fall. Garrett continues to get better with every match he plays. Hernus is back on track, and he probably played the two best matches today that he has played all fall."

The Bulldog Scramble will resume Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with four doubles matches indoors. The tournament features players from Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, Oklahoma, Furman and Vanderbilt.
