FLUSHING, New York- Baylor’s Patrick Pradella, will compete in the final of the consolation draw at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, after two wins on Saturday at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
The 16th-ranked Pradella, now 9-3 on the season, began his day with a match against Oklahoma’s 44th-ranked Dane Webb. Pradella got off to an early lead claiming the first set 6-3, but had to battle back after a second set 4-6 loss to claim the match in the third set, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
With his second round win, Pradella faced No. 7 Nik Scholtz, who was bumped from the main draw by fellow Baylor teammate Julian Lenz. Pradella fought Scholtz off in the first set winning 7-5, before closing out the match in the second to advance to the final with a 7-5, 6-4 victory.
Pradella will face No. 6 Marcus Giron of UCLA in the final of the consolation round Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
Baylor junior Diego Galeano (12-4), could not get past Giron in the second round of the consolation draw, falling by a score of 6-2, 7-5.
