WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK AT Utah (Feb. 7) - Boise State (4-2, 0-0 MW) opens the week on the road against the undefeated Utah Utes (5-0) on Feb. 7 with a 5 p.m. (MT) start in the George S. Eccles Tennis Center on the Utah campus.

The 45th-ranked Broncos are 4-2 overall coming in on three-match win streak, including a road sweep last weekend defeating New Mexico 4-3 to open Mountain West play, followed by a 5-2 win at Arizona. Boise State and Utah met last year in Boise where the Broncos defeated the Utes 6-1.

Utah is undefeated entering the weekend coming in off a home sweep last weekend over Montana (5-2) and Montana State (7-0).
The Utes and Broncos are regional opponents in the ITA’s Mountain Region. Utah is led by Slim Hamza ranked No. 5 in singles regionally and Alejandro Medinilla at No. 19. In doubles the Utes’ team of Cameron Lee and Cedric Willems is ranked third in the region, while Hamza and Devin Lane are seventh.

At No. 66 Brigham Young (Feb. 8)

Boise State will close this weekend’s schedule at 66th-ranked Brigham Young (4-4) Saturday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. (Mountain) in the BYU Indoor Tennis Center at Provo, Utah. This match will conclude the third of six consecutive weeks on the road for the Boise State men’s team. Last year the No. 45 Boise State men’s team fell in a dramatic 4-3 defeat to No. 41 BYU, snapping the Broncos’ 28-match home win streak.

BYU is 4-4 overall to open the 2014 team season. The Cougars have lost four straight and are coming off a pair of road defeats last weekend at Mountain West member Air Force (4-3) and at No. 54 Denver (5-2). The Cougars and Broncos are regional opponents in the ITA’s Mountain Region. BYU does not have anyone ranked nationally in singles or doubles, but are led by Francis Sargeant ranked eighth-regionally in singles. The doubles team of Sargeant and Andrey Goryachkov.

Boise State enters the week ranked 45th nationally by the ITA in the most recent rankings (2/4/2014).

BETTLES NATIONALLY RANKED
Bronco senior Andy Bettles (13-6 overall, 2-3 duals) begins his final season at Boise State ranked 54th nationally in singles after going 11-3 last fall and 3-1 versus top-50 opponents.

BRONCOS REGIONALLY RANKED
Singles: Boise State has four Broncos ranked in the top 20 in the ITA’s Mountain Region led by Andy Bettles at No. 3, Thomas Tenreiro (8-6 overall, 2-2 duals) at No. 9, Garrett Patton (8-7 overall, 1-2 duals) No. 10 and Brendan McClain (10-5 overall, 5-1 duals) at No. 14.

Doubles: The team of Garrett Patton and Brendan McClain (9-4 overall, 2-2 duals) are ranked as the number two doubles pair in the region.

DEFENDING MW CHAMPIONS
Regular Season Champions: The Broncos are the defending regular-season Mountain West Conference co-champions after going 8-1 in league play during 2013.

Tournament Champions: Boise State is the two-time defending Mountain West Tournament champion after defeating New Mexico 4-3 in last year’s title match at Colorado Springs, Colo. The Broncos have won 14 conference titles all-time.
NCAA Tournament Participant: Boise State advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2013 for the 16th time in school history and the eighth time in the last nine years. The Broncos fell 4-3 to No. 23 Clemson in the first round of the tournament at Knoxville, Tenn.

QUICK LOOK AT BOISE STATE
The Record: Boise State is 4-2 overall after three weeks of action. Last year the Broncos went 20-10 overall and 8-1 in conference.

The Broncos at Home: Boise State is 1-1 at home in 2014. Traditionally the Broncos are hard to beat at home in Boise. They went 10-1 at home during the 2012-13 season. Boise State on the Road: The Broncos are in their third week of a six week road trip and are currently 3-1 away from Boise. Their lone loss was at then-seventh-ranked Baylor.

Boise State Singles: The Broncos feature one of its strongest lineups this spring with a solid mix of experience and youth. Look to seniors Andy Bettles and Nathan Sereke to lead the nine-member squad this spring playing on courts one and two, respectively.

Boise State Doubles: Boise State has a solid selection of doubles teams in which to choose. Leading numerous potential teams is the duo of freshman Brendan McClain and junior Garrett Patton.
