BOISE, Idaho - Boise State’s 24th-ranked men’s tennis team closed out the regular season with a Saturday doubleheader sweep, wrapped up with a commanding 4-1 victory over the San Francisco Dons at the Appleton Tennis Center in the night cap. In the final home match of their careers all three Bronco seniors had a hand in the victory. No. 82 Andy Bettles won his singles match, Nathan Sereke won at both singles and doubles, while Aidan Reid won in doubles to help Boise State closeout the regular season at 25-4 overall. The Broncos now head to the Mountain West Conference Tournament next week, April 24-27, at Fresno, Calif.

“You could not have found a better ending to the regular season party for our three seniors than to see how they played today,” said Greg Patton. “This was like fireworks setting our seniors off in style in one last celebration for all the work they have put in over the last four years. But now we have to focus on riding that first class train to the Mountain West Conference Tournament next week and then onto the NCAAs.”

The night opened with the teams splitting the first two doubles matches. Boise State’s tandem of Toby Mitchell and Sereke gave the Broncos a momentary edge when they handed USF’s James Tallman and Timothy Tan an 8-3 defeat. They finish the regular season at 13-4 as a team.

However, the Dons came right back with an 8-5 win on court one over the Broncos Bettles and Thomas Tenreiro. Court three then became the decisive match with the team point on the line. Boise State’s Aidan Reid and Brian Foley pulled it out for the Broncos as they knocked off Germian Bahri and Thomas Takemoto 8-6 to clinch the doubles point.

Singles went to the Broncos 3-1 as the Blue and Orange collected wins on courts five, six and two. But singles opened with the first match going to the visitors at No. 3 singles where Tenreiro fell to the Dons’ Tallman in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.

That was followed by three consecutive singles wins for the Broncos. Mitchell started it off by putting away USF’s Timothy Tan 6-1, 6-1 to give Boise State the lead back and improve his singles mark to 21-7 overall and 13-3 in duals.

Brian Foley followed shortly after handing Bahri a straight-set 6-4, 6-2 loss on court six. Foley completed the regular season at 21-9 with a 14-5 duals record.

The clinching victory came on court two where senior Nathan Sereke dispatched San Francisco’s Nils Skajaa 6-3, 6-2 to make the final score 4-1 Broncos. The native of Sweden finished his final regular season at 15-12 overall in singles.

The final two singles matches were abandoned once the team victory had been decided. The No. 1 singles match stopped with Bettles up 6-2, 2-5. The No. 4 singles position where Garrett Patton was playing finished at 3-6, 6-2, 1-1.
