WHAT'S HAPPENING
- Boise State (6-11) will close Spring Break with three matches as the Broncos welcome No. 43 Stanford (7-4), No. 66 UC Santa Barbara (5-6) and Eastern Washington (4-11) to town.
- Location: All three matches will be held at the Appleton Tennis Center on campus next to Taco Bell Arena. If bad weather continues the matches will be moved to the Boas (indoor) Tennis Center at 1507 S. Oakland Ave.
- Admission: There is no charge to attend Boise State tennis matches.
- Parking: There will be one location for free parking for each match located in the Liberal Arts Parking Lot to the west of the Appleton Tennis Center.
THE STANFORD MATCH
- The action begins on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. (Mountain) when the Broncos and 43rd-ranked Cardinal face-off at the Appleton Tennis Center. The Stanford match is the final of four contests against the Pac-12 this season for Boise State which is 2-1 - Utah (W 5-2), Oregon (L 4-2) and Arizona (W 4-3) - against the league to date.
THE UC SANTA BARBARA MATCH
- This week's action continues on Saturday as the Broncos host a doubleheader at the Appleton Tennis Center. It begins with the Gauchos of 66th-ranked UC Santa Barbara at 11 a.m. UCSB is a member of the Big West Conference and is coach Patton's alma mater. The Gauchos are the fourth Big West member Boise State will face this year going 1-2 - Hawaii (W 6-1), UC Irvine (L 4-3) and Cal Poly (L 5-2) - against the BWC so far.
THE EASTERN WASHINGTON MATCH
- This week's action concludes on Saturday night when the Broncos host the Eastern Washington Eagles in the second match of the doubleheader at the Appleton Tennis Center. The Eagles are members of the Big Sky Conference and they are the first of three matches for the Broncos versus schools from that league with Montana and Idaho remaining on the schedule.
NEXT UP FOR BOISE STATE
- The Broncos will wrap-up their nine-match homestand next weekend (April 3-5) when they host the New Mexico Lobos, Montana Grizzlies and Air Force Falcons at the Appleton Tennis Center (weather permitting).
RECENTLY FOR BOISE STATE
- The Broncos grinded out a tough 4-3 home victory over Arizona last Saturday (March 21) in which Garrett Pattonand Thomas Tenreiro won their singles matches to rally the Broncos from 3-2 down for the victory. Both won tightly contested three-set singles matches over nationally ranked opponents to hand Boise State the win.
- On Monday, the Broncos came up on the short end of a 5-2 score in a loss to 65th-ranked Cal Poly in Boise. Once again Patton and Tenreiro led the Broncos recording singles victories against the Mustangs, but it was not enough as Cal Poly claimed the win.
REPRESENTING THE BRONCOS
TOUGH COMPETITION
- As usual Boise State has not shied away from a tough schedule in 2015 which features 28 matches.
- Of the 28 matches, 16 will be against teams currently ranked in this week's ITA Top-75: No. 18 South Florida, No. 19 Northwestern, No. 25 Texas Tech, No. 33 Harvard, No. 35 San Diego State, No. 43 Stanford, No. 44 New Mexico, No. 45 Auburn, No. 49 Pepperdine (twice), No. 51 Oregon, No. 57 Penn, No. 64 Cal Poly, No. 66 UC Santa Barbara, No. 72 UNLV and No. 75 UC Irvine.
- Boise State is one of six Mountain West members who have been ranked in New Mexico, San Diego State, Nevada, Utah State and UNLV at some point this year.
- In all, Boise State will face 20 teams who have been ranked this season.
QUICK LOOK AT BOISE STATE
- The Broncos are currently 6-11 overall entering the weekend.
- The Broncos went 28-5 overall and finished the 2014 spring duals season ranked 29th. Boise State at home: The Broncos are 3-3 at home in 2015.
- The Blue and Orange went 14-1 at home last season competing at both the Boas Indoor Tennis Center and the Appleton Outdoor Tennis Center.
- So far this season the Broncos are 3-8 on the road.
- Boise State went 14-4 on the road in 2014.
- Greg Patton is in his 19th season as head coach at Boise State where he is 414-161 overall in team duals, his career mark is 765-354 in 35 years.
DEFENDING MW CHAMPIONS
- League Champions: Boise State is the three-time defending Mountain West Tournament champion and is undefeated in the event since joining the league for the 2011-12 season.
- NCAA Tournament Participant: Boise State advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2014 for the 17th time in school history and the ninth time in the last nine years.
ITA REGIONAL RANKINGS
- Boise State has four players regionally ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Regional rankings come out once in the spring semester just before the season starts, they are based on fall results.
- Singles: Senior Garrett Patton begins the 2015 dual season ranked ninth in the ITA Mountain Region, while junior Thomas Tenreiro is 10th.
- Doubles: In doubles the team of junior Brian Foley and junior Toby Mitchell enter the spring ranked ninth in the region.
