Tech Tennis Teams Have 10 Named to Academic All-Big 12
Both the men’s and women’s teams place five players each on the respective lists
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men’s and women’s tennis teams had five players each named to the Academic All-Big 12 teams released by the conference Friday.
The Lady Raiders were led by senior Samantha van der Drift, who was named to the first team for the third-consecutive year. She was joined on the first team by fellow senior Kyla Coleman, junior Kerryn Potgeiter, and sophomores Kelsy Garland and Simone Templeton.
The men’s squad had all five of its seniors named to either the first or second team. Sinisa Markovic (second team), Michael Breler (first team) and Christian Rojmar (first team) were all third-year selections, while Milos Kustudija (second team) and James Wilson (first team) were honored for the first time in their careers.
Both teams close the regular season this weekend against Oklahoma State and Oklahoma with the men’s squad playing at home and the women going on the road. The men face OSU at 6 p.m. Friday night and OU at 1 p.m. Sunday at the McLeod Tennis Center, while the women were to face the Cowgirls at 1 p.m. Friday and also at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Following this weekend, both squads will travel to Norman, Okla., for the Big 12 Championships, held April 23-26, at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
