Sophomore Elizabeth Begley wins her first collegiate title in straight sets in her native Houston.
HOUSTON – Texas sophomore Elizabeth Begley collected her first collegiate singles title by posting a straight-set win Sunday at the Cougar Fall Draw hosted by The University of Houston.
Begley, a Houston native, posted a 6-1, 7-5 win over Auburn’s Emily Flickinger to claim the singles title in the “scarlet” draw. Begley captured eight of nine sets on her way to the singles title.
Begley and teammate Juliana Gajic nearly had a shot at the doubles title, but the duo suffered a 9-8 (6) defeat to Houston’s Bryony Hunter and Giorgia Pozzan in the semifinals.
