Bruins Down Washington, 5-2 for 17th-Straight Win

LOS ANGELES - The top-ranked UCLA women's tennis team posted its 17th-straight victory on Friday afternoon, registering a 5-2 win over Washington at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. With the result, UCLA improves its record to 17-0 overall and 4-0 in the Pac-12. The Huskies see their record fall to 6-8 and 0-5 in the conference play.

Friday marked the 16th time in 17 matches that UCLA has captured the doubles point, as the Bruins posted wins at court Nos. 1 and 2. Robin Anderson and Skylar Morton, who are listed at No. 11 in the latest ITA Doubles Rankings, improved to 18-5 overall and 6-2 at the No. 1 position when they downed Capucine Gregoire and Samantha Smith, 8-2. UCLA's McCall Jones and Carling Seguso followed that up with an 8-5 win of their own at court No. 2 to secure the point.

Freshman Kaitlin Ray, who did not play doubles, was first to finish her singles match, giving the Bruins a 2-0 lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Adrijana Pavlovic at court No. 6. Wins by Anderson and Seguso soon followed, giving UCLA an insurmountable 4-0 lead. Morton was also a singles winner for UCLA on Friday, downing Gregoire, 6-4, 3-6, (10-8) at court No. 3.

The Huskies earned their two points on the day with wins at court Nos. 2 and 4. Bruin freshman Chanelle Van Nguyen saw her dual-match winning streak come to an end on Friday, as she fell to Julija Lukac, 3-6, 6-3, (10-8). Van Nguyen had won 16 matches in a row heading into the afternoon.

UCLA returns to action tomorrow, hosting Oregon at Noon.
