UCLA Women Team News
No. 4 Bruins Blank Washington, 7-0
Friday, 03/29/2013

SEATTLE - The No. 4 UCLA women's tennis team notched its fourth shutout of the season on Saturday afternoon, posting a 7-0 victory over Washington at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle. The Bruins, who also beat Washington State, 6-1 on Friday in Pullman, see their record improve to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in Pac-12 play.
Despite suffering an upset at the No. 1 doubles position on Saturday, UCLA rallied at court Nos. 2 and 3, notching a pair of 8-4 victories to claim the point. The Bruins clinched the point at the No. 2 spot, where 28th-ranked Courtney Dolehide and Pamela Montez downed Natali Coronel and Gracy Ysidora. Freshmen Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips were also victorious at court No. 3.
Although doubles was somewhat close, the Bruins absolutely cruised in singles action, notching straight-set victories at all six courts. In fact, no UCLA player lost more than four games in any match. Wins by Harrison (court No. 5) and Chanelle Van Nguyen (court No. 4) quickly put the Bruins up 3-0. The clinching win came at the No. 2 spot, where Montez was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Ysidora to give UCLA an insurmountable 4-0 advantage.
UCLA's Robin Anderson (court No. 1), McPhillips (court No. 3) and Dolehide (court No. 6) were also victorious.
It marked the Bruins' second victory over the Huskies (9-7; 1-4 Pac-12) this season, as UCLA downed Washington, 4-0 during ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Los Angeles Tennis Center in late January.
Next up for UCLA is a home match with Stanford on Friday, March 29. First serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
