ATHENS----Georgia moved up to No. 6 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association weekly rankings, the ITA announced Wednesday.
The Bulldogs (13-2, 3-1 SEC) are off this week with the school on spring break.
Last weekend in Mississippi, Georgia blanked Mississippi State 7-0 and beat Ole Miss 5-2. Up next, they will travel to Arkansas to face the No. 43 Razorbacks on March 23 at 1 p.m. ET. Arkansas is 8-6 overall and 1-3 in the SEC.
Also, the ITA released new singles and doubles rankings, and four Bulldogs are in the top 75 in singles plus one doubles team is in the top 10. Senior Chelsey Gullickson is ranked No. 8 with a 24-7 record. Sophomore Maho Kowase, who is 17-5, checks in at No. 40. Freshman Lauren Herring leads the team with a 25-6 record and is ranked No. 51. Sophomore Kate Fuller, who is 23-8, rounds out the group at No. 69.
In doubles, Gullickson and senior Nadja Gilchrist are ranked No. 8 with an 18-5 mark. Georgia’s other top doubles teams are Fuller/Herring and Kowase and sophomore Lilly Kimbell. The Fuller/Herring team owns a 23-11 record while the Kowase/Kimbell tandem is 13-2 with an impressive 11-match winning streak.
Gullickson has tallied a combined 209 wins in her Bulldog career (114 in singles and 95 in doubles), and that tally ranks seventh in school history. The Bulldog doubles mark is 109 victories by Naoko Ueshima (109-50 from 2007-10). Gilchrist has 89 career doubles wins, which ranks in a tie for seventh in school history.
Georgia’s next home match will be Sunday, March 25 at 1 p.m. when it plays host to LSU. The Tigers are 7-4 overall, 2-2 in the SEC. They have six matches scheduled before they visit Athens. The Bulldogs are 8-1 at home this season, 3-0 on the road and 2-1 at neutral sites.
