OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women’s tennis freshman Kristi Boxx earned a bid to the NCAA Singles Championship, and will team up with sophomore Karen Nijssen in the doubles championship, as the individual selections were announced Wednesday.

Boxx becomes the second Rebel tennis freshman this year to qualify for NCAAs, joining fellow Mississippi native Devin Britton of the men’s team, who made the men’s field of 64.  The Grenada native played No. 1 singles all season and earned All-SEC first team honors.  She is currently ranked No. 36 in the nation with a 11-7 record at No. 1 singles.

Nijssen will be making her second NCAA appearance in doubles.  She and Boxx are ranked No. 16 in the country with a 17-5 record at No.1 doubles.

Both helped the lead the Rebels back to the NCAA Team Championships, a No. 21 national ranking and the semifinals of the SEC Tournament.

The Rebels will open NCAA play May 8 against Denver in Atlanta, Ga.  The match begins at 10 a.m.

The NCAA Individual Championships will take place May 20-25 in College Station, Texas.
