COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Ole Miss freshman Kristi Boxx advanced to the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship Wednesday with a straight set win over Baylor’s Jelena Stanivuk, in the first round at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Grenada, Miss., native downed 44th-ranked Stanivuk 6-3, 6-3 to move on to the second round where she will face the No. 2 seed, Julia Cohen, of Miami. Cohen defeated South Carolina’s Anna Maria Zubori 7-6(4), 6-3.
Boxx, ranked No. 36 in the nation in singles improved to 27-12 overall. She will also compete in doubles Thursday with sophomore Karen Nijssen. The two are ranked No. 16 in the nation.
