Sooners Sweep at ITA Regionals
NORMAN, Okla.-- The University of Oklahoma men's tennis team won both the singles and doubles titles at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Championships in Minneapolis, Minn., Monday, Oct. 22.
ITA preseason No. 28 Guillermo Alcorta defeated Minnesota's No. 50 Leandro Toledo 6-4, 6-1.
"Willy played some of the best tennis I have ever seen him play this weekend," assistant coach Bo Hodge said. "This was his first individual tournament title since he has gotten to OU. He has established himself as one of the best players in the country and I'm excited that he will get the opportunity to go to New York City and compete at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships in a few weeks."
Alcorta and his doubles partner Axel Alvarez Llamas also came away with a win, beating Drake's No. 59 tandem Anis Ghorbel and James Mckie 8-4.
"This weekend was a great weekend for the Sooners," Hodge said. "Willy and Axel played exceptional doubles and I'm excited they will represent Oklahoma at the USTA/ITA nationals in New York City."
The USTA/ITA Indoor Championships will be Thursday, Nov. 8 to Sunday, Nov. 11.
The Sooners next take the court at the Texas A&M Invitational Friday, Oct. 26.
