NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 11 University of Oklahoma men's tennis team returns home to face No. 37 San Diego Thursday, March 28, at 5:30 p.m.
"San Diego is a very tough team and Coach Masi has done a great job with the team," OU head coach John Roddick said. "We are looking forward to the challenge and we know it is going to be a tough fight."
The Sooners (11-5) enter the match against the Toreros (11-5) after going 1-1 on their spring break road trip. OU began the week strong with a 6-1 win over No. 64 Arizona, but fell to No. 6 Pepperdine, 4-3, in a match that had four matches go to three sets and was not determined until the final match ended.
San Diego comes into the match after losing to No. 36 TCU, 4-3, Tuesday evening. TCU snatched the first team point after winning two doubles matches. In singles, the Toreros and the Horned Frogs split the wins evenly, with San Diego winning at the No. 1, 4 and 5 positions.
OU boasts three ranked singles players, No. 30 Costin Paval, No. 51 Guillermo Alcorta and No. 61 Dane Webb. In doubles rankings, Paval and Webb partner as the No. 29 team, while Alcorta and Axel Alvarez Llamas pair as the No. 71 duo.
San Diego has one ranked player, No. 78 Clarke Spinosa.
In The Sooners' last home appearance, Florida State topped OU, 4-3, in a four-hour match that featured three tiebreakers and three matches that went to an extra point, and had three matches go to the third set.
OU stays home for an Easter afternoon match Sunday, March 31, at 1 p.m. against No. 69 Rice.
