NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 11 University of Oklahoma men's tennis team faces Big 12 newcomer No. 33 TCU Sunday, April 7, at 1 p.m. at the Headington Family Tennis Pavilion.
"TCU is going to be a tough test," OU head coach John Roddick said. "They have a great record and have been playing very well recently."
The Sooners (14-5, 1-0 Big 12), who were voted the unanimous Big 12 preseason favorite last week, began conference play by defeating border state rival No. 16 Texas, 5-2, Friday night in Norman, Okla. The Sooners swept doubles and won all but two singles matches against the Longhorns.
The Horned Frogs (16-5, 1-0 Big 12) snatched a win over Oklahoma State, 7-0, in their Big 12 debut Friday afternoon. The only match they lost was an 8-4 decision on Court 2 in doubles.
OU boasts three ranked singles players, No. 30 Costin Paval, No. 51 Guillermo Alcorta and No. 61 Dane Webb. Paval and Webb partner as the No. 29 doubles tandem, and Alcorta teams with Axel Alvarez Llamas as the No. 71 duo.
TCU brings two ranked singles players, No. 103 Nick Chappell and No. 119 Arnau Dachs. Chappell pairs with Will Stein as the No. 79 doubles team.
The Sooners hit the road again next weekend. They travel to Waco, Texas, to face the No. 15 Baylor Bears Friday, April 12, at 6 p.m. They then head west to Lubbock, Texas, for a match against the No. 38 Texas Tech Red Raiders Sunday, April 14, at 1 p.m.
