USC sophomore Sabrina Santamaria collected two championships on Sunday at the Freeman Memorial, and has subsequently been honored as the Pac-12 Player of the Week for her outstanding winning efforts.
On Sunday, Santamaria teamed up to complete success with doubles partner Kaitlyn Christian as the nation's No. 1 team worked through teams from UNLV, UNC and UCLA to reign supreme with their first title of 2013. Later that day, Santamaria took to the singles courts as the No. 4 seed in the draw. Aside from a three-set battle in the quarterfinals against Stanford's Ellen Tsay, #17 Santamaria managed straight-set wins down the line as she went on to deal out a 6-0, 6-2 upset of #2 Krista Harbebeck of Stanford in the semifinals before dominating #11 Gina Suarez-Malaguti of UNC 6-0, 6-1 to win the Freeman Memorial singles championship.
This is Santamaria's first career selection as Pac-12 Player of the Week. Santamaria and the Women of Troy get back to team competition this weekend as host of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 26-27) at Marks Stadium. USC opens up at 12 p.m. against Akron on Saturday, with the championship match set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
