Texas Notes at a Glace
• Series: It will be the third time Texas and ACU will meet on the court. The Longhorns won the first two meetings, 7-0 in 2002 and 9-0 in 1989. Texas leads the all-time series with Rice, 65-17-7. UT has won seven consecutive matches against the Owls.
• Home-stand: Texas ends a six-match home stand with its doubleheader on Saturday. Texas’ last two home matches of the season will be on April 17 against Baylor (LHN) and April 21 against Texas Tech.
• Rankings: The Longhorns are ranked 17th in the latest ITA Rankings, released on Tuesday. Individual singles and doubles rankings were not updated. ACU checks in at No. 14 in the Division II poll.
• Last time out: Texas lost to No. 1 Virginia , 5-2, on March 15 in Austin. The Longhorns picked up wins in No. 4 singles as Sudanwa Sitaram defeated 12th-ranked Mac Styslinger (4-6, 6-4, 6-4) and No. 5 singles as Nick Naumann defeated 70th-ranked Harrison Richmond (5-7, 6-4, 7-5).
• At Home: Texas is 44-5 at home since the 2010 season (the current senior class’ freshman year). Texas has won eight of the last nine matches at home, including a 5-1 mark this season.
• Top 10 opposition: Four of Texas’ five losses this season have come against top-10 opponents -- No. 9 Kentucky, No. 2 Southern California, No. 7 Pepperdine and No. 1 Virginia.
• Texas’ 19th-ranked doubles team of Chris Camillone and David Holiner are coming off three consecutive wins in the No. 1 position. Two of their last three matches did not finish before the doubles point was clinched. Camillone and Holiner hold a 13-6 overall record and 4-2 record during the dual season.
• Sophomore Lloyd Glasspool has won 12 of his last 15 singles matches and boasts a 10-3 record in dual match singles play. Last Saturday, Glasspool took the top-ranked player in the nation, Virginia’s Alex Domijan, to three sets (5-7, 6-3, 6-2).
• Sophomore Soren Hess-Olesen is UT’s highest ranked singles player, entering Saturday’s match 43rd in the nation with a 10-8 overall record and 4-7 record in dual play. Nine of his 18 total matches have been against ranked opponents.
• Junior Sudanwa Sitaram has won five consecutive matches, including a win against No. 12 Mac Styslinger of Virginia last Saturday in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 6-4). It was Sitaram’s highest-ranked opponent
• Senior Daniel Whitehead helped clinch the win for Texas over Michigan on last Saturday with a three-set tiebreaker win against Vald Stefan. Whitehead has three wins against nationally-ranked opponents with a 18-12 overall record and a 7-4 record during the dual match season. Whitehead ranks 29th in Texas history with 80 career singles wins.
• Next up: Texas begins its five-match Big 12 Conference schedule on April 5 at Oklahoma, followed by an April 7 date at Oklahoma State.
• Michael Center is in his 13th season at Texas (254-92 record) and 22nd season overall as a tennis head coach (412-160 record). His 250th win at Texas came against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 21.
• Texas has made 21 consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament, including three Final Four appearances in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
• The Edgar O. and Melanie A. Weller Tennis Center at Dave Snyder / Graham Whaling Courts was dedicated on Feb. 27. The $8.8 million facilitiy, located at the UT Golf Club, features six indoor courts and four outdoor courts. Texas played its first match in the center against Michigan on March 9, winning 4-3.
