UT junior Alex Hilliard and sophomore David Holiner each win two matches and earn berths in the qualifying draw.
TULSA, Okla. – Texas junior Alex Hilliard and sophomore David Holiner each produced a pair of singles wins and earned berths in the qualifying singles draw Sunday on day two of the ITA All-American Championships.
Hilliard came from behind in both of his matches to earn his berth in the qualifying singles draw. The Corpus Christi native produced a 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (6) win over Southern Illinois’ Jorge Cavero in the pre-qualifying round of 64 before edging Memphis’ David O’Hare in the round of 32, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Holiner posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over USC-Upstate’s Edgar Rodriguez in the round of 64. Holiner took the first set off of SMU’s Arturs Kazijevs in the next round, 7-5, and Kazijevs retired after the first set, which gave the victory to Holiner.
Hilliard and Holiner will join UT juniors Ben Chen and Daniel Whitehead and freshman Soren Hess-Olesen in the qualifying singles draw on Monday. The draw has yet to be released.
