UT junior Aeriel Ellis reaches singles and doubles quarterfinals, and Texas advances an additional doubles pair to the semifinals.
FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas junior Aeriel Ellis notched two victories to reach the singles quarterfinals and advanced alongside senior Krista Damico in the doubles quarterfinals Saturday on day two of the ITA Texas Regional Championships.
Ellis defeated Texas Tech’s Sandra Dynka by a 6-2, 6-3 count in the round of 32 before posting a 6-2, 7-5 win over Stephen F. Austin’s Tereza Bekerova in the round of 16. The All-American will meet Baylor’s Jordaan Sanford in Sunday’s quarterfinals.
Ellis teamed up with Damico to record an 8-1 win over Rice’s Ana Guzman and Stephanie Nguyen. Ellis and Damico will meet Texas A&M’s Cristina Sanchez-Quintanar and Sun Wen in Sunday’s quarterfinals.
Sophomore Cierra Gaytan-Leach and freshman Noel Scott advanced through doubles with an 8-6 win over SMU’s Shahzoda Hatamova and Heather Steinbauer. The duo will take on TCU’s Millie Nichols and Olivia Smith on Sunday.
