UT junior All-American Aeriel Ellis drops a three-set match while competing in her eighth consecutive national championship event.
FLUSHING, N.Y. – Texas junior All-American Aeriel Ellis suffered a three-set defeat in the second round of the singles draw Friday evening on day two of the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, one of three national championship events on the college tennis calendar.
Ellis dropped the first set to Miami’s Anna Bartenstein, 6-4 before rallying to claim the second set, 6-2. Bartenstein powered away to a 6-1 third-set win to eliminate Ellis from the singles draw.
Ellis, who reached the semifinals of this event last season, was competing in her eighth consecutive national championship event.
Texas added four singles wins Friday at the Cougar Fall Draw, where competition will continue on Saturday.
