No. 35 Tulsa Sweeps IPFW and Western Illinois
The 35th-ranked Tulsa men's tennis team completed a doubleheader sweep on Thursday with 7-0 wins over IPFW and Western Illinois at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
In the nightcap, Tulsa (15-7) grabbed the doubles point with wins in all three flights against Western Illinois. James Seagraves and Alberto Sottocorno defeated Zach Frisch and James McGuire in the top position, while Philip Stephens and Ashley Watling blanked Francisco Ortiz and Mandela Shepard, 8-0, in the No. 2 spot. Marko Ballok and Arnau Brugues topped Neil Lesinki and Sean Ragee-Nelson, 8-4, in the third position.
Arnau Brugues and Ashley Watling both earned perfect 6-0, 6-0, wins in the top two singles positions, while Marko Ballok, Albert Jou, Wojciech Starakiewicz and Rusty Turpin all won their singles matches to seal the 7-0 win over the Leathernecks.
In the first match of the day, the Hurricane won all three doubles matches against IPFW in convincing fashion. James Seagraves and Alberto Sottocorno easily handled Diego Arteaga and Hermann Kuschke, 8-2, in the No. 1 position. Philip Stephens and Ashley Watling defeated Felipe Gama and Luis Maselli, 8-4, in the No. 2 slot, and Arnau Brugues and Rusty Turpin blew past Cameron Braun and Rodrigo Tamashiro, 8-1, in the No. 3 position.
Tulsa continued its dominant play in singles action, picking up victories in all six positions without dropping a set. Senior Alberto Sottocorno, junior Marko Ballok, sophomore Victor Kolik, and freshmen James Seagraves, Wojciech Starakiewicz and Patrick Collins all earned singles wins to complete the 7-0 win over the Mastodons.
The Golden Hurricane is back in action against 19th-ranked Louisville at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
