Tulsa, Okla. – While snow blanketed the city, the 35th-ranked Tulsa men’s tennis team stormed past 19th-ranked Louisville, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon from the indoor courts of the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Tulsa won its third straight match to improve its record to 16-7, while Louisville drops to 16-4 on the season.
Tulsa swept the Cardinals in all three doubles positions, highlighted by James Seagraves and Alberto Sottocorno upsetting 11th-ranked Austen Childs and Simon Childs, 8-6, in the top flight. Philip Stephens and Ashley Watling teamed up to beat Tim Barnoud and Viktor Maksimcuk, 8-2, in No. 2 doubles, and Arnau Brugues and Marko Ballok topped Robert Hall and Robert Rotaru, 8-3, in the No. 3 position.
In singles, top-ranked senior Arnau Brugues easily defeated 40th-ranked Austen Childs, 6-0, 6-2, in the No. 1 slot. Brugues improves his singles record to 34-3 on the year, which includes 20 wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
The Hurricane also picked up singles wins from junior Philip Stephens in the No. 4 position, freshman Ashley Watling in the fifth slot and junior Marko Ballok in the No. 6 position.
No. 35 Tulsa is back in action on Wednesday, April 1, against 14th-ranked Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.
