Senior Arnau Brugues was named the No. 1 singles player in the nation for the third time this season by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in the latest Campbell/ITA National Men's Singles poll released on Tuesday.
Brugues regained the top spot after improving his singles record to 36-3 on the season with a pair of wins over then 48th-ranked Cristoph Muller of Rice on April 5th, and previous top-ranked Oleksandr Nedovyesov of Oklahoma State on April 9th. The three-time All-American has earned 22 wins this season over nationally-ranked opponents.
Junior Philip Stephens also came in ranked No. 86 in the singles poll after posting wins over then 30th-ranked Wil Spencer of Texas A&M on April 1st, and 46th-ranked Bruno Rosa of Rice on April 5th. Stephens has a 17-11 singles record on the season, including five victories over ranked opposition.
Brugues and Stephens also earned a No. 3 national doubles ranking, with a 16-7 record on the season. The ranking ties the duo’s highest national mark of the season, with their previous No. 3 ranking coming in the March 3rd poll.
No. 32 Tulsa concludes its regular season schedule this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. against Oral Roberts. The Hurricane will honor seniors Arnau Brugues, Ross Cunningham and Alberto Sottocorno.
