The No. 17-ranked Tulsa men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 14 Texas A&M at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
The Golden Hurricane falls to 5-5 on the season, while the Aggies improved to 8-3.
Tulsa dropped the doubles point going up against two-ranked doubles pairs. The No. 7-ranked duo of Harry Adams and Shane Vinsant dispatched the Tulsa senior tandem of Grant Ive and Tristan Jackson, 8-2, at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, TU's Japie De Klerk and Carlos Bautista fell 8-2 to Jordan Szabo and Jeremy Efferding. Junior Clifford Marsland and sophomore Alejandro Espejo faced No. 40 Junior Ore and Jackson Winthrow at No. 1 doubles, and the match was left unfinished tied at 4-4.
In singles play, No. 124 Adams of Texas A&M dispatched Espejo, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 singles to give the Aggies a 2-0 lead.
Marsland, ranked No. 101 in the nation, defeated Ore, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, to cut the deficit to 2-1.
At No. 5 singles, Szabo defeated Jackson 6-3, 6-3, and Behzad Minavi won against Bautista, 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the match for A&M.
De Klerk, ranked No. 54 in the country, won his match at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-4 against Efferding.
The Golden Hurricane continues its road swing on Wednesday, February 27 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, as TU will face Michigan in a 6 p.m. match.
